A few weeks ago we stood on the balcony of an orphanage for toddlers (3-6 years). That was our second visit to this home during the past month.

We looked down on the children where they were playing outside. Some of them sat alone, rocking. I asked the Lord what about these children. The scripture in Math. 10:30 came to my mind: And even the very hairs of their heads are all numbered… We climbed down the stairs to them, felt their arms around our necks and prayed that the Lord will touch these vulnerable children in a special way.

We spoke to the nurse. She was clearly so frustrated. They are only two on duty to take care of the children. The government cut down on funding, reduced staff, they work 12 hour shifts, have to clean, take care of the children, etc. During the night only one worker is on duty. Apart from taking care of the children, she has to do the washing during the night. The next night she has to do the ironing. Only way to keep the kids save at night is to lock their door. Later we asked what about the children? The answer Oh, half of them wet their beds, every morning we have badly soiled beds, they really just cause more work…
